Ultimate Guide to DS Online Multiplayer in Delta Emulator

Delta 1.7 introduces free DS online multiplayer using fan-run Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection servers (original servers shut down in 2014). This only works for DS games and does not support Link Cable, Wireless Adapter, or DS local wireless. Popular games like Pokémon support online battles and trading.

Setup

  1. Disable VPN/Proxy – Using one may result in a temporary Wiimmfi ban.

  2. Delete Internet BIOS Files – If downloaded, go to iOS Settings → Storage → Delta and delete bios7.bin, bios9.bin, and firmware.bin (prevents using banned BIOS).

  3. Use Your Own BIOS – Dump from a DS via a flashcart. DSi BIOS won’t work in Delta.

  4. Select a WFC Server – Go to Delta Settings → Core Settings (Nintendo DS) → WFC Server.

    • Wiimmfi is recommended (best support & most players).

    • NewWFC (for Mario Kart DS only) → 89.117.58.143.

Common Issues & Fixes

  • Error 23917 (Ban Warning?) → Erase Nintendo WFC config in-game, retry, and delete external BIOS if used.

  • Error 51099 (No Internet) → Re-select WFC server in Delta settings.

  • Frequent Disconnects → Delta disconnects after 30 seconds in the background. Avoid switching apps.

Pokémon Online Multiplayer

  • Supports Gen 4 & 5 games only:

    • Gen 4 (DS): Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver

    • Gen 5 (DS): Black, White, Black 2, White 2

  • Friend Battles/Trades:

    1. Obtain Pal Pad (a key item in the Pokémon Center).

    2. Connect to a WFC replacement, get a friend code, and register friends in Pal Pad.

    3. Use Wi-Fi Club, not the local Communication Club.

Other Online Features

  • Wi-Fi Tower & Plaza – Work fine, but players may use hacked Pokémon.

  • GTS (Poké Classic Network) – View trades online.

  • Battle Videos (Vs. Recorder) – Supported.

  • Mystery Gift (Events & Items) – Unlock via in-game menus, use “Get via Nintendo WFC.”

Common Pokémon Questions

  • ROM Hacks? – Online features are unlikely to work.

  • Pokémon Bank/Home? – Must transfer to a real DS first; no direct support.

  • Need Trade Help? – Check Poké Classic Network Discord.

Delta Emulator v1.7 Changelog

Improved N64 Core

Delta now uses OpenGL ES 3.0 for better graphics, fixing common issues like black textures. You can switch back to OpenGL ES 2.0 for specific games if needed.

Delta Emulator Online Multiplayer Support

Customisation options include:

  • Custom Resolutions: Edit the config file at Delta/Cores/Mupen64Plus/Config/mupen64plus.cfg
  • Texture Packs: Add high-resolution textures to Delta/Cores/Mupen64Plus/hires_texture

Game Screenshots

Taking screenshots in Delta just got easier! You can now take a snap with high-quality 1080p screenshots directly from the pause menu, ensuring crisp images in your Photos app.

Additional improvements include:

  • Controller Support: Map a game controller button to take screenshots.
  • New Screenshot Input: Works with controller skins for seamless captures.
  • Dedicated Album: Save screenshots to a “Delta Screenshots” album for better organization.

Per-Game Settings

A new context menu lets you adjust the settings for each game individually, replacing the old “Change Game Skin” option. Now, you can configure:

  • Preferred Game Skin – Set different skins for different games.
  • Graphics Mode (N64) – Choose between OpenGL ES 3.0 or 2.0.
  • Inserted GBA Game (DS) – Select a virtual GBA cartridge for DS games that support it.

Controller Case Support – Optimized for Accessories

Delta now adapts to controller cases like GAMEBABY and PlayCase by letting skins adjust the pause menu position with a new menuInsets property. This ensures the menu stays accessible, whether you’re playing in portrait or landscape mode.

RetroAchievements Support (Experimental) – Track achievements for NES, SNES, and N64 games by logging into your RetroAchievements account (more systems coming soon).

Hardcore Mode & Notifications – Enable Hardcore mode for an extra challenge and receive instant notifications when unlocking achievements.

“Ask Lu” AI Assistant (Experimental) – Get game tips and detailed information while playing, with additional support available on Discord.

Updated Settings Menu – “Respect Silent Mode” is now OFF by default, and Friend Zone Patrons always appear in Settings.
Enhanced Navigation – A new “Follow Us” footer has been added to the Settings screen for quick access to updates.

Experimental Features Cleanup – “Variable Fast Forward” is now called “Custom Fast Forward Speed”, and outdated experimental features have been removed.

Improved Error Logging – Exported error logs now include a timestamp in the filename for better tracking.

Miscellaneous Changes – The “External Purchase Link” entitlement has been removed from non-App Store builds for a cleaner experience.

About the Fixes

  • Controller & Input Fixes – Resolved issues with analogue sticks on poorly standardised controllers and restored the “Reset” button when selecting a landscape or per-game skin.
  • Graphics & Audio Fixes – Fixed black/missing textures in various N64 games and white screen issues when locking/unlocking while AirPlaying DS games.
  • Save State & Sync Fixes – Resolved false incompatibility warnings for non-DS save states and a crash when viewing save states for unsupported systems.
  • UI & Accessibility Improvements – Fixed missing Settings button accessibility label, adjusted the “Hold Button” description layout, and improved save state UI reliability.
  • Miscellaneous Fixes – Addressed misleading Delta Sync errors and an iPad-specific bug that closed all games when using multiple scenes.
